“You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream.” - C.S. Lewis
Dictionary.com states that the word goal means: "the result or achievement toward which effort is directed." Other words to describe a goal are: target purpose, object, objective, intent, intention. In life, we are taught to have goals from an early age, whether we know it or not. A goal to be the best at a sport, to get good grades, to get our first boyfriend/girlfriend, and those all-to-famous driver's license.
As we get older, the goal to go to college, have an amazing career, the nicest house, and more. Being goal-orientated becomes a part of human nature at times. And many of those inherent goals are just fine. But what about personal goals? What about setting goals to grow mentally, spiritually, physically?
When you set a goal, you set-up a target, something to be reached. When we journey to achieve those goals, you grow as a person. With everything going on right now, it is so easy to play opossum. Flip over and play dead. But even now, we still need to grow in our personal lives. I mean, what is the point to life if we stop growing?
Just some of my personal goals for the month of August:
Drink a minimum 64 (not quite 2 liters/litres) ounces of water every day.
Write 2 cards/letters a week.
Read 2 chapters in a non-fiction book every week.
Read 1 proverb from the book of Proverbs every day (in the Bible)
Pay off 1 debt account, no matter how small or big, just pay something off.

When I created my goals for the month of August, I had to ask myself some questions. Were my goals unrealistic, did I have the financial resources to achieve my goals, and were they specific enough to really achieve? But, in setting those goals, I also needed to make sure they challenged me in some way, shape, or form.
Now, you may look at my list as super basic, and it really is basic. However, that is where I am in life right now. And it is very realistic with an edge of challenge. Yes, 2 chapters a week seems so little in comparison to what so many of you read in a day. But that is 2 more chapters than I have been reading. Or what about paying off one account? We are pursuing to be as debt-free as possible. Personally, I see debt as a noose. I hate it. Because of this, I really want to pay off one account this month. Whether it be a credit card or something small, I want it gone. For us, we have the resources to do so if we make a few sacrifices here and there.
Having written all of these wonderful (are they really wonderful, meh) words, I wanted to challenge each of you to see a couple of realistic, but slightly challenging goals. Maybe you cannot commit to 64 ounces of water, but can commit to 16 ounces right now. Or maybe you can set a goal to working out 3-days a week for 20 to 30 minutes. My beloved Team Body Project has free workouts on YouTube.
Whatever you decide, commit and achieve it! You are never to old to set goals, let alone too old to achieve them.
