I have such a love/hate relationship with cooking. I enjoy cooking, but with 3 toddlers, it can be tough. That has recently changed though. Whenever my husband is off, I have started to prep 4 to 5 dinners for the week. Total game changer! Not only does it help relieve stress from cooking during the week, it also helps save money. No more Doordash for us. Well, not as often as I had been using it. This is great for the busy mom, the new mom, or someone who just wants to have less stress during the week.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you with making your dinners for the week!

  1. Before you go shopping, see what you have on hand. I had an ungodly amount of mushroom and chicken soup mix. That helped me plan out some of our meals.

  2. Plan what meals you want to make for the week. This will help you purchase any items you need.

  3. Make your shopping list. I love doing a Walmart pickup for freezer meal prep. I can do through and build my shopping list on my ingredient needs.

  4. CLEAN your kitchen before you start any freezer prep! Trust me, this will help you in the long run. You will have more space to prep and cook, also cutting down on clean up time at the end.

  5. If you have meat that needs to be cooked beforehand, cook it. If you know you will need 3 pounds of cooked ground beef or shredded chicken, get that out of the way.

  6. While the meats are cooking, prep your veggies. This will help you assemble your meals.

  7. Once you have prepped your meals, let them cool (if cooked) before freezing. Here's why.

  8. Wrap, wrap, wrap meals properly. This will prevent freezer burn.

  9. For the best meals, use within 3 months. Nutrition can start to break down over time.

  10. Thaw meals overnight in the fridge. This will ensure the maintain a safe temp while thawing.

Now what did I prep for my dinners? Here are a few things I have done:

-Meatballs with spaghetti sauce (I made these and froze raw).

  • -Cottage pie

  • -Orange chicken

  • -Chicken pot pie

  • -Steak fajita kit

  • Mississippi chicken

  • and more!

Now get to searching for yummy recipes! This will surely save you time, money, and maybe a few gray hairs.
